She was attracted to the study of the history of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers because of her basic interest in the impact of science and technology on the shaping and development of fundamental human institutions, such as the city. She is the Coordinator of the Urban Studies Degree Program at Buffalo State College, where she is a Professor of History, is President of the New York State Labor History Association, and is currently involved in research on the history of the so-called "Hometown Plans," in the struggle to integrate the American building trades. She was also the President of United University Professions.
