Most of their singles had been rap remakes of old R&B songs, and they hadn't even rapped all that much on their biggest hit, "Push It," which got by on its catchy synth hook. But Blacks' Magic was where Salt-N-Pepa came into their own. It wasn't that their crossover appeal diminished, but this time they worked from a funkier R&B base that brought them more credibility among hip-hop and urban audiences. More importantly, they displayed a stronger group identity than ever before, projecting a mix of sassy, self-confident feminism and aggressive -- but responsible -- sexuality. The album's trio of hit singles -- "Expression," "Do You Want Me," and the playful safe-sex anthem "Let's Talk About Sex" -- summed up this new attitude and got the group plastered all over MTV. But there was more to the album than just the singles -- track for track, Blacks' Magic was the strongest record Salt-N-Pepa ever released. Even if there's still a bit of filler here and there, Blacks' Magic successfully remade Salt-N-Pepa as their own women, and pointed the way to the even more commercially successful R&B/pop/hip-hop fusions of Very Necessary. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi, London Records, 1990, 3, Free Press, 2001. Trade Paperback. Very Good. NICE BOOK! NO SPINE CREASES & VERY MILD WEAR ON RED COVER. LIGHTLY AGED PAGES, NO MARKINGS. Description: What if there is a You that has never seen the light of day, has never got to say, "Hey, what about me?" What if there is a You that you have never even met and certainly never permitted to just be, without fear of judgment or condemnation? What if you live your life on the sidelines in constant fear of failing to please those who forever seem to stand in judgment of you and your life? What if you discovered that you had settled for what life has served up instead of what you really wanted and needed? What if you really think and feel things you have never allowed to come out, and certainly never acted on? What if your marriage is not at all what you really emotionally want and need, but you silently stay the course anyway, selling out your hope to be happy? What if you are allowing days to turn into weeks and weeks to turn into months and months to turn into years, all adding up to a lifetime of being what some nameless, faceless world has assigned you to be? If any of these "What ifs" are true in your life, then we need to talk, and through these pages, we will. First, I have some bad news, and I have some good news. The bad news is you are making the choices that have put you in this life circumstance; the good news is you are making the choices that have put you in this life circumstance. Now is the time to make the biggest choice of your life. Through Self Matters, I will help you do just that.-- Phil McGraw, Free Press, 2001, 3, "May I remind you," Ross's voice was sharp, betraying the depth of his anger. "that any transcations will be between your brother and me. This house is no concern of yours." Katie glared at him, her eyes stormy. How dare he speak to her like that--implying that she should mind her own business! She hated him, she told herself furiously. And whoever said that hatred was akin to love simply didn't know what he was talking about!, Harlequin Romance 2014, 2.5, Atlantic, 1999-01-01. Audio CD. Very Good/Very Good. excellent condition CD in original jewel case with inserts; After mounting U.S. interest, photogenic Irish pop group the Corrs took their highly successful international hit album Talk on Corners and issued a special edition. This version featured more dance-oriented remixes of several key tracks, reworked by some of Europe's hottest DJs. "What Can I Do" is transformed into a medium-paced, hip-hop-laced chestnut courtesy of Tin Tin Out, who also reworks the ballad "Runaway," an earlier hit from Forgiven, Not Forgotten, also included here. K-Klass reworks "So Young" (without really venturing into dance territory), and legendary house maestro Todd Terry retools their icy cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams," recalling his career-defining remix of Everything But the Girl's "Missing." "Don't Say You Love Me," "Love Gives Love Takes," and "Intimacy," all which appear on the original version of Talk on Corners, are not included here. Those who favor the more straightforward, Celtic-sounding Corrs should go with the original album. More pop- and dance-oriented fans, especially those concerned with the hits, would probably find this set more appealing. Also included are the highlights "I Never Loved You Anyway," "Only When I Sleep," their excellent take on Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing," and the irresistible instrumental "Paddy McCarthy." However, this edition of the album did not translate into massive U.S. success -- their next album, In Blue, fared a little better. ~ Jose F. Promis, Rovi, Atlantic, 1999-01-01, 3, Good.
